With the destruction of the ghast that had once been a retainer in the service of King Vahahran, the group chose to continue their search of the tomb. After leaving the Chambers of Artistry, the group moved along the corridor heading towards the next set of rooms in the underground complex. On the way along the corridor Trillian noticed some unusual stonework in the passageway and managed to find a way to open the door. Inside they found a room of four beds, two of which were occupied by beheaded skeletons, and a head on the floor with bits and pieces of flesh still clinging to the bone.
Carefully they searched the room, and it wasn’t until Trillian prodded one of the skeletons with a thrown dagger. From underneath the blanket an otherworldly shriek came out, causing Sid to be paralyzed with fear of from the shriek. The blankets on each corpse rose up, with something beneath them that came forward out for the blood of adventurers. It started with Ricros smashing one of the two after they tried to take a bite out of the two. The blankets however clouded their vision making it difficult for them to attack, but because of those same moldy blankets it was difficult to pinpoint their location beneath them. A few moments later Granite took a swing, and missed the first vargouille, but ripped the blanket from it allowing the rest of the group to defeat them. Inside a few moments the second vargouille shrieked, but was quickly silenced by a smash of Ricros’s warhammer. It was over after just a few moments.
After this the group chose to forego a chance to rest in a fairly secure room, and chose to continue. Afterwards they proceeded into a large gathering area, where a pair of large clay statues with snake-like heads which Granite promptly destroyed. Instead of proceeding through the large double doors they went through the small door that led into a small chamber that smelled of unwashed bodies and bodily waste, that was recently used. They went through the last door door in the room, and saw a long rough hewn corridor that ran far enough to see out into the daylight. Instead of proceeding outside, they chose to instead go through the double door from the gathering area.
Inside the room they found a chamber that was the very definition of oppulent, with gold leaf on almost every surface and a large sarcophagus inlaid with gemstones in the center of the room. After taking the time to search the room, Trillian found a secret door in the north wall, but it was Draco that spotted the sarcophagus was unlatched, the large rusted iron clasps were undone. The group lifted the lid to find a mummy inside that was covered in freshly spattered blood, both human and orc. It however made no move to rise from that slumber, and the group ignored the gemstones inlaid in the sarcophagus. Instead they headed through the secret door, and entered into a room filled with cobwebs and an altar with a gauze wrapped corpse along the other wall.
