Our story begins in Stagarth, crossroads of the world. Many people choose to begin their journeys in this place, because there are ample resources to tap due to the merchantile power of this land. Our group of intrepid adventurers was no different in these regards. Yet their misguided dreams of fame and fortune were not to be had so easily.
Soon they had run into a group of Justicars from Stagarth, a more flowery name for what amounts to naught but slavers. These Justicars it seems were not of the kind that Stagarth is known for, most of the Justicars are honorable men that take only criminals for indentured servitude. For some time they were kept unconscious, only waking in a cramped jail cell with only a collar and loincloths to wear.
Here they met Jarvis Greenfield a rogue mage that had been in the cell for the past two days. Jarvis it seems had been there the last two days, and knew a little bit about what was going on in this place and filled the group in. They found out that a creature known as Felgar ran this little prison area, and placed the various prisoners into gladiatorial matches to see if they were worthy of the honor of joining, The Glorious Army of the Dawn. After three matches they found out they would be brought into the pyramid for some reason or another.
The time came for their first match, and while they were chosing their weapons unwatched by the sethsarri guards one of the members of the party spotted something. While choosing his weapons for the combat, id had spotted that the racks for the weapons were not overly sturdy. He realized the nails in them were loose, and figured they might make passable lockpicks with which to escape their cells, if they managed to survive the combat to come. After choosing weapons the group along with Jarvis, and a new arrival Stannick were lead into the arena and forced to fight a group of goblins.
The party along with the aid of their newfound friends quickly subdued the goblins, and were ordered to drop their weapons by the derro Felgar Rockhead. Without really even knowing why, the group complied and was lead from the collisseum headed back towards their jail cells, with nearly a dozen nails tucked away that hadn’t fallen from loinclothes during combat. After the shamans of the sethsarri had seen to the wounded, Jarvis set to work on picking the lock. Inside of a minute they were free from the prison and itching for some revenge.
The sethsarri guards weren’t prepared, they had been lulled into a false sense of security since nothing had gone wrong in this camp from the inception. In a fast ambush the two guards who were gambling were quickly dispatched. Their first task now that they had gotten free was to arm themselves and prepare to enter the pyramid of Felgar. Finding a door they had passed earlier they used a key found on the sethsarri guards to open the door, finding an armory well stocked with arms and armor.
After equipping themselves they moved on to the pyramid, and began the first fruitless search for a door only managing to find a trail of footprints stopping at the edge of the stone pyramid. Remembering something that Stannick had said earlier, Ajax managed to recall him mentioning a word which caused the door of the pyramid to rumble open into four sethsarri. After putting down these snake-men the group managed to sneak up on a snake-man up the stairs that had miraculously slept through the encounter downstairs. Here they found a ring of keys, one of which fit their collar allowing them to remove it and feel their connection to their supernatural abilities restored.
They headed up the stairs once again, to find Stannick chained to a wall and a bubbling alchemy lab set against the other. After releasing Stannick, Jarvis lead him down to the armory while the group explored a little bit of the room, puzzling over what exactly the bubbling concoction was. In the end they bottled it up and took it along with them.
They continued on to find two orcs and a hobgoblin in a very deep sleep, but struggling against the bonds of the tables they are strapped down onto. After attempting to wake them, even through pain and violence they continued to sleep on. Moving on to the next room they found a human and an elf that were both lucid and spoke with them. They spoke of a ritual that had been performed on them, and how they had been infused with the Mists.
After freeing them the group moved on to the next room, and found a magical circle scribed into the floor and filled with quicksilver in each of the grooves. Draco, theorized after studying the circle that it is designed to keep the worst of the Mists out, acting as a filter to keep the recipient of the ritual alive. The group moved on up the stairs to find Valstos, the chief of Felgar’s security. Upon hearing the group coming up the stairs, they’d made no attempt to be silent, he rose from bed bellowing, “Danger Master!” then lept to attack.
Quickly Granite found out that the man was not someone to underestimate as he took a massive blow from the longsword wielded by Valstos. After a few seconds they managed to fell Valstos, and prepared to confront Felgar. This however is a story for another time.
